Plate to Politics Trains Women at National Farmers Union’s Fall Legislative Fly-in

On September 11, 24 women attending National Farmers Union’s Fall Legislative Fly-in gathered for a two-hour Plate to Politics mini-workshop. At the organization’s most well-attended Fall Legislative Fly-In in over a decade, 350 Farmers Union members traveled to Washington, D.C., to advocate for stronger farm and food policy.

How I Lead: Patty Edelburg Elected Vice President of National Farmers Union

In a short conversation with Patty Edelburg it is easy to tell that she is a dynamic leader with a long-term vision. She’s a leader in food and agriculture and has served in a variety of roles in Wisconsin Farmers Union and USDA FSA. Now, she will bring her range of skills and knowledge to the National Farmers Union as Vice President. She was elected this March at the National Farmers Union Convention in Kansas City.

National Farmers Union: How will you advance women leaders?

This January I was fortunate to get a break from the cold Iowa winter and spend three days in San Diego with approximately 90 women at the National Farmers Union Women’s Conference. This conference was particularly exciting because NFU decided to make women’s leadership and Plate to Politics a focus of the conference. Liz Johnson, our collaborator from VoteRunLead was the keynote speaker.
