Carol Schutte Elected President of Iowa Academy of Science
WFAN program assistant Carol Schutte was installed as president of the Iowa Academy of Science at its recent annual meeting, held on the University of Iowa campus. Outgoing president Nadine Weirather passed her the gavel (Nadine and Carol are pictured at left.) Carol has been a member of the Academy for 27 years. This was the 127th annual meeting of the Academy, whose mission is to further scientific research, science education, public understanding of science and to recognize excellence in these endeavors. The Academy accomplishes its mission through many programs and activities.
Carol, who taught biology at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City for 25 years, has been working for WFAN for the past 2 and a half years. and is currently involved with facilitation of soil health workshops for women landowners with funding from the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, and North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education.
