We Are Building Community — The Long-Distance Way

These are trying times. We want you to know that we at Women, Food and Agriculture Network acknowledge this. That is why we hope to connect with you, our members, in a space created for sharing thoughts, ideas, concerns, and support. (And, in full transparency, we’re inviting you to do this just as much for us, as for you. We need community, too.)

Creative Community Support

WFAN staff has been sharing inspiring stories of community support during this time of uncertainty. We are seeing the spirit of care, generosity, and ingenuity shine as individuals and local businesses hunker down to weather periods of physical isolation and, for some, difficulty in securing basic necessities. One such story comes from our own WFAN board member, Sarah Carroll.

BECOME A WOMEN, FOOD AND AGRICULTURE NETWORK MEMBER!

Because:

Your voice matters. Your experience matters. You need to be heard.

Join Women, Food and Agriculture Network for opportunities to engage on local, state and national levels in building a just and ecological food and agricultural system. With your membership, you will receive news, information, opportunities to participate in private members-only groups, and discounts on products and services by some of our favorite women-owned businesses like Barn2Door, Dovetail WorkwearYonder, and Beyond Barcodes

We are:

  • Expanding our current programming, which now includes the Women Caring for the Land; Harvesting Our Potential; Women, Land & Legacy; and Plate to Politics programs;

  • Telling the stories of WFAN and the importance and history of women in agriculture, and assisting our membership in telling their stories, so that our collective experiences, struggles, and needs are heard and better understood;

  • Bringing inclusivity and diversity to the forefront of our work. WFAN is proud to work to decrease sexism, racism, and patriarchy within agriculture, and we recognize that there is much more we can do.

“My life has been devoted to raising women’s voices in agriculture. My dream is that the landscape of industrialized agriculture will change as women become the decision makers on their land. To that end, I will devote my time on this earth to women, prairie restoration and seed saving.”

— Denise O'Brien, WFAN's Founding Director / Read more about WFAN’s Herstory

Get Involved

The WFAN website serves as a portal for our virtual community of information and support for women all over the US around the issue of sustainable agriculture and healthy food systems. But we know nothing replaces face-to-face interaction with peers. That’s why we hope to offer some support to those of you who may not live in the Midwest where we hold most of our events, and don’t have access to any of the other regional networks that continue to spring up around the country.

Let's stay in touch! We send email updates through three newsletters: WFAN News is our general email newsletter, Patchwork is for women landowners, and Plate to Politics is our leadership newsletter.
