WFAN works with many constituents, including:
✦ Farmers
✦ Consumers
✦ Students
✦ Researchers
✦ Advocates
✦ Policy-makers
Some of our current programs include “Women Caring for the Land,” working with women landowners to educate them about conservation methods they can implement on their land, bringing together women in sustainable agriculture for annual gatherings for education and networking, providing information and tools to help women become advocates in their own communities and at the state and federal levels, and informing women about opportunities to serve on boards and commissions to make sure women’s voices are heard.
Past work has included helping to found the Women, Land and Legacy (sm) program, holding Farm Bill Listening Sessions for women around the state, and participation in a graduate student’s study on what motivates Iowa’s women farmers, among many others.
WFAN also was the initiator of the Iowa Farm Disaster Relief Coalition, an ad hoc collaboration of more than a dozen farm and faith groups in the state working to collect and distribute relief funds to sustainable farmers who suffered damages from 2008’s storms and floods.
