Women, Food and Agriculture Network and Iowa Women in Natural Resources are partnering to present a joint Annual Conference on Thursday and Friday, January 28 & 29, 2010 at King's Pointe Resort, Storm Lake, IA.
Please register today for the joint WFAN/IWINR 2010 annual conference on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 28 and 29 at King's Pointe Resort in Storm Lake, IA.
This new northwest Iowa resort hotel and indoor water park is offering rates of only $50 per night for double rooms accommodating up to four people, and this includes a pass to the water park. The $50 block rate is guaranteed through Dec. 26; after that, if rooms are still available they will be offered at the conference rate. Here are some highlights from the agenda:
Thursday
•10:30 - 11 a.m. – Check-in and registration.
•Lunch is provided (lasagna and salad/soup)
•Keynote address from Julie Sievers of IDNR on the Storm Lake watershed
•Concurrent afternoon sessions on wind farming and outreach to women farmland owners (presentation by Jean Eells about WFAN's "Women Caring for the Land" project)
•Dinner is provided and will feature local foods! During dinner, WFAN executive director Leigh Adcock will give an informal presentation for all attendees on WFAN's activities in 2008-2009
•After-dinner wine, cheese and chocolate networking reception sponsored by WFAN. Stick around to meet one another and socialize!
•Evening activities--water park or downtown Storm Lake
Friday
•Breakfast on your own
•Concurrent sessions on careers in natural resources, sustainability (Liz Christensen of the University of Iowa Office on Sustainability) and using nature in art (offered twice.)
•Lunch is provided
•Keynote by Merry Rankin, Iowa State University's program manager for the Office of Sustainability
•WFAN business meeting (Leigh will update WFAN supporters on plans and projects for 2010, and introduce the WFAN board of directors)
